IF YOU HAD A DAY WITH THE RAINCAMP CREW,
WHAT WOULD YOU DO???
Sunday morning I woke up and was prepared to head to Rhode Island for a family cookout. I got a call from my colleagues Jason and Seth to join them in Boston to meet The Ben Kinney and show him around. I jumped at the chance! I'm a HUGE ActiveRain fan and have been with the site since January 2007. I quickly changed my plans and was on my way to Boston.
Driving there I had no idea what to expect. What would I say to Ben? Would he be funny? Would he want to talk about ActiveRain or would he be sick of it? When I arrived in Boston I met up with the guys at P.F. Chang's restaurant where they were just finishing up lunch. I sat in the booth next to Ben and introduced myself. He was very quiet. Actually, I described getting him to talk like pulling teeth.
We were all sitting there trying to think of what we'd do for the day in Boston. I suggested a Duck Boat Tour, but no one was having it. They were too cool for school!
Ben wanted to do something that wouldn't be too hot since it was in the low 90s and humid that day. I don't remember who suggested it, but we ended up on our way back to Ben's hotel to get a few of his crew and go to Cirque Du Soleil.
That's where I met Kerrie and was reunited with Doug (aka RainMan) and Michael (aka Zillow Man) that I met at a Tom Ferry seminar a few months ago. Cirque Du Soleil was AWESOME! Unlike anything I've ever seen. The way they can move is just so unnatural! After a great show we ate dinner at the Legal Seafoods Test Kitchen where I bumped into my good friend Steve Loynd, an awesome blogger from the White Mountains in New Hampshire. From there we went back to the hotel bar for some drinks and dessert.
Kerrie's one cool chic! She checked out my blog and complimented me on all of my hyper local stuff I post. She gave me some tips and she's just so welcoming, it's refreshing. Ben is a real genuine nice guy. He's a wealth of knowledge and does a great job sharing that with the world. You can tell Doug and Michael love what they do. Both are always smiling and always so nice to chat with.

Great post! I hope it gets featured. I can't wait for a camp to come to my area. Looks like great fun.
Thanks Paula! It was the best weekend ever! Learned a ton and had some great fun with the crew. What a fun and intelligent group of people. I hope to join them someday! =)
Sincerely,
Kathleen
Givn the opportunity to spend some time with the AR crew, I'd definitely thank them for bringing us this wonderful forum called ActiveRain....Oh, and I'd pick their brains in an effort to help me increase my web presence.
Very cool Kathleen! I figured you may have had the chance to meet everyone the day before the way they were picking on you:)
Kathleen, it was a very special day for you and Rhode Island's loss when you joined the AR crew on Sunday.
LOL @ Bill! Yes, I got picked on a lot, didn't I? It was all in good fun. I hope they come back soon and hope we get tons more to attend RainCamp.
Special sure does sum it up Bruce! I was in awe all weekend.
Kathleen - Great to see some more pics from the event.... It sure was fun in NYC meeting up with everyone in person. Glad you enjoyed it. I know I did when we attended last winter, that seems so far away now...
Hi Kathleen - You can't go wrong with Chang's and Cirque. It's always a lot of fun (and motivating) to meet other blogging enthusiasts.
Kathleen, it sounds like a wonderful way to spend the day. Congratulations on the opportunity.
I am sooo jealous. Sounds like a great opportunity to bond and chat with the best!
How come you get to take a picture with Ben,Kerrie and Doug. I guess I should've did that when I was at Raincamp DC. Hopefully I will next time. I am off to read your other blogs. Congrats on the Gold Star.
That sounds like fun. I live in a more rural area so the challenge would have been bigger to entertain them all. It may have been walks on the Boardwalk and a stop at the local crab house!
It's pretty rural where I'm from Cheryl, but they had the RainCamp in Boston about 45 miles from my house. Usually only takes 45 min - hour to get there, but it took me a little over 2 hours the morning of RainCamp because of traffic. Forgot how long it takes to drive into the big city!
Thanks Lanre! I hope you can find some good stuff. I wrote some posts about everything we learned in RainCamp with some great tips and tools.
Kathleen, you're such a doll. I had a wonderful time in your neck of the woods and hope to return again one day. Keep up the great posts my friend!
Isn't the staff phenomenal? I want to say Kerrie is the best but I might hurt some feelings so I won't pick favorites.
Is that teeth pulling thing accurate or is that a joke? I wish I could have been there. Rain Camp in Dallas, TX was fantastic!
Kerrie - You're AWESOME!!! I have to agree with Renee! :)
Chris - Ben's really not chatty like me. I made a few jokes about it being like pulling teeth to get him talking, but he did talk all day at RainCamp the next day almost solo.
It sounds like a great time. I always enjoy time with the AR crew, and I'm lucky to be having lunch with them in just a little bit.
Thanks for sharing . It looks and sounds like you had a blast. Isn't it cool, when you have a day true out so great thatyou had no idea about in the morning!!
Hope the family did not mind you bailing on them!
Kathleen, you're so right on your comments about the AR crew. This was a very intense event and unfortunately for those from New England, it would have been taken up another 25% had Bob Stewart and Brad Andersohn been around. Probably not to mention the night before would have been entirely different, those guys do party
Looks like you had fun....
Kathleen, Thanks for the shout out and reminding your wonderful readers who they're gonna call in the White Mountains of New Hampshire (read shameless plug here). I guess I owe you a ski lesson this winter. I enjoyed meeting the whole crew and they were even nicer in person than they appear to be on-line.
Sounds like a good time was had by all, Kathleen! I would love to spend time with the AR crew to pick their brains, but that wouldn't be fair to do on their "time off"!
Hi Kathleen--so much cooler reading a post like this when I've personally met you and shared the main event -- although I'm sure the day before was probably the main event for you! You were so lucky (no you earned it) to spend the extra time with all the big guys!
Hi Kathleen
Don't know you, but came from CT and now in FL. I can't wait to attend ARcamp in Orlando in August. P.S. By the way - you should have taken the crowd to BLUE MAN GROUP.. they were awesome when we saw them in Boston a few years back. But you can't go wrong with Cirque either... great shows too.
I'm glad you had fun... but the real question is, Did they make you cry?
I think the 99 Balloons video did generate a few tears in the room...
I see I missed out on all the fun...again...drat...Tell me that you managed to wheedle another New England RainCamp out of Ben...
Kathleen, how cool is that?? I have found that a lot of people who are speakers and performers are actually rather introverted when they're not 'on.' Interesting, isn't it? You'd think they'd be bleeding extroverts but they're not always. You are so-o fortunate to have had that quality laid back time with the guys and gal :) Thanks for sharing with us!
How cool is that?
Kathleen, we had such a great time!!! I had the opportunity to meet Ben Kinney at KW Family Reunion this past February in New Orleans, but the time we spent with him and the rest of the crew on Sunday was so productive. It's so awesome how he and the rest of the ActiveRain crew are willing to share their insights, knowledge, and expertise to help us all improve. I look forward to meeting them all again. I enjoyed the Circus also, but the Scallops at LTK were the highlight of my evening...
BTW... I've finally posted my first blog :) I look forward to reading your comment.
Onward,
Jason Piedrasanta
Kathleen - looks like you had a good time and met the great people behind Active Rain. Congratulations on your success.
LOL @ Steve Loynd!!! :)
@ Donna - Yes, the video was so sad. I had to bite my lip to try and not ball my eyes out the entire time it was playing.
@ Lisa - I agree, very cool meeting you all in person!
@ Corrine - We have a family reunion on Aug 15th so I figured I'd see them all in just a few weeks. This was too good to pass up! :)
Great job on this post along with getting featured AGAIN!!! Can't wait for our party on Tuesday!!:)
