7 YEARS AGO TODAY I WAS A VEGAS RUNAWAY!!!
Today is our 7 year anniversary. James and I traveled to Las Vegas and stayed in a penthouse suite in the Mandalay Bay to get married at the Chapel by the Bay. It was really a wave pool with real sand, but it was just as beautiful as a beach.
James and I had known each other for 43 days when we tied the knot. Yes, that's right! 43 DAYS!!! James is quite the joker so when he said lets go to Vegas and get married I said "sure!". LOL Not knowing that he was going to pull out his laptop and buy us plane tickets from North Carolina to Vegas, I decided to see how far he'd take this. Well, he took me all the way to the alter and back. 7 years, 4 kids, a couple of moves and a business later, here we are in Brookfield, Massachusetts thriving in the real estate industry. People actually placed bets on us after we got married giving us anywhere between 6 months and a year to get divorced. We sure have showed them wrong!
I was 19 years old the day we got married (don't tell anyone) and my parents were freaking out!!! They had never met James and had no idea what we were doing. They love him now, but at the time they were threatening all kinds of things if I didn't call my mother. When we got to Vegas in the middle of the night we drove around looking at all the bright lights and ended up at Mandalay Bay. What a beautiful place to be! It was so hot, I can remember the smell of the pavement and the temperature being 117 degrees the day we got married.
The first couple of days we rode all of the roller coasters and went in and out of all of the hotels we could find. We enjoyed the lights and the life in the busy city. We went to the mall, enjoyed all kinds of food from restaurants we didn't have at home and searched for wedding rings.
On the day of July 17th, 2003 we headed down to the Chapel by the Bay to get married. Still unsure if we were going to go through with it, we bravely walked into the empty chapel and took our places. Shaking from nervousness we said our vows and were married by a lady that looked like Sally Jesse Raphael. After the ceremony we put on our swimsuits to enjoy some fun in the sun at the wave pool where James lost his first wedding ring in the sand. He was putting on some sunscreen and it flew off and could not be found. We headed to the store and bought him a new one that was exactly like the old ring.
And so...history was made and we are celebrating today with our family from Texas! Hope you enjoyed our story. I know, we're nuts! =)
