Something was compelling me to write a post about one of the best women I have ever known and it got me thinking about starting a Monumental Mondays group. I want to share with the world how much she has meant to me. I want to acknowledge her today, this very day, and let her know how much I love and adore her. She is my grandmother Madeline Ford, my maternal grandmother. She is one of the strongest and most grounded, down to earth people that I have ever known.
Grandma Madeline gave birth to and raised 9 children. 5 boys and 4 girls that she raised into wonderful adults with families of their own now. My grandfather also had 2 sons and 3 daughters before they met and were married and she has welcomed them into her family with open arms. She is there for her family at all times, you always have a place to turn with Grandma Madeline in this world. She has a heart of gold. I can remember when I was a little girl, she used to play the lottery with me and my cousin's birthdays and when she won she'd split it with us. It was very exciting. Before I had 4 children, I used to try and spend as many Sundays over at her house as I could. It was easy to make the 75 mile round trip from Massachusetts to Rhode Island when it was just me, or even just me and James Jr., but once I added a few more children to my family, it was hard to make the time and hard to bring screaming babies over to their peaceful home. My heart will always be there on Sundays, sharing the friendly conversations and food she would make and the family would bring. I miss being able to visit, but I know she understands and respects the family that I've started and she's only a phone call away.
For a woman that has had so many children and has always had family in and out of her home, she's never sick of seeing us. She always makes us welcome. She does not like to travel, yet she has taken the long car trip to our house in Massachusetts and down south when we lived in North Carolina. I respect my grandmother so much and I only hope that I can be half of the mother and grandmother she has been to our family, to my own.
I love you gram!

Well aren't you just as tender as a mothers love! That was a really nice blog about your "Gram." So what did you do with all those lottery winnings? :)
LOL Well, I don't really remember what I did with the winnings. It was never a huge jackpot or anything, but as a young kid even a $100 was awesome in my book! The memories of what I did with it are gone, but the feeling I got from her sharing it and from her thinking I was special enough to use my birthday numbers is still here and will be with me forever.
Have a great day!
Sincerely,
Kathleen
Kathleen,
I now know what Nicole meant about the tears!
Your Grandmother is and will always be one of the great ones! A lot like her Mom Katherine whom I miss dearly for the same tender moments she gave us as kids. You do follow in her footsteps! You're an awesome Mom!
Thanks for reminding me it's just a matter of time and I need to make some for her!
Love,
Mom
Hi Mom!
I need to make some more time too. I miss hanging out over there and get so caught up in business and my own life that I don't get to see her as much as I should and while we can. I'm going to have to put trips to RI in my calender each month so I can go visit! And I just wanted you to know, you're one of the great ones too. I love you!
Sincerely,
Kathleen
Hi Kathleen, I felt the same way about my beloved grandfather and I hope my precious granddaughter feels the same way about me! Excuse me now while I get a tissue....
Hi Shirley! I'm sure your granddaughter does feel that way about you. You strike me as a very sweet lady. Hope you have a great week!
Sincerely,
Kathleen
Thanks Honey!
I just got off the phone with Gram and she invited Jeff and I for dinner Sunday! You guys should come too! She's making a Mini Thanksgiving! It would be awesome seeing as how you won't be here for Thanksgiving! :)
Love you bunches!
I would like to attend on Sunday. Open house at 59 Mechanic St. in Warren from 12 to 2PM. Maybe we can all come together after that.
