WHAT Do I Pay YOU For?!?

You hear people say it all of the time "why do real estate agents get paid that much?" or "real estate agents get paid for nothing" or maybe "real estate agents get paid too much".  If you don't know what you're paying your real estate agent for, you must not have the right one!  Professional real estate agents have many jobs whether we are working for the buyer or for a seller.  Here are just some of the things we get paid for:

1.) Taxi cab driver - We will drive you from town to town showing you every home under the sun, if you so choose, until you finally find that one you'd like to make an offer on....AND....if that offer does not get accepted, we start all over until one does get accepted! 

2.) Negotiating specialist - We play hardball for you!  Whether you want us to get 99% of your list price or you want 15% off that home you are looking to purchase, we have been trained and practice daily how to negotiate in your favor.

3.) Receptionist - We, or someone we have to pay, have to sit around and answer phone calls and emails about your property to anyone that inquires.  This can be VERY time consuming, especially on hot properties! 

4.) Bouncer - We have to screen every person that wants to setup a showing for your home or that comes through your open houses to make sure we find qualified buyers to purchase your home. 

5.) Marketing Specialist - We research and pay high dollars to advertise your home where buyers will find it.  That is upfront, without any money down from you in hopes that you stick with us until your home sells and we can get paid. 

6.) Social Butterfly - We network and keep good relationships with other local brokers and agents so we can tap into their buyer pool when we have a new listing.  We share our commission with them if they bring a buyer.  We blog, tweet and post your home wherever people may be talking about real estate. 

7.) Friend - We are here for you.  We will pick up our phones, day or night, and answer your questions, ease your fears and keep up your hopes.  We will laugh with you, cry with you and be there for you beyond the sale.  We are your friends for life. 

If you are hesitating hiring a real estate professional because you can't see the added value, it's time for you to do some more interviewing.  You need to find someone that you can connect with and that has your best interests at heart.  If your Realtor is doing their job, they'll be worth every penny they get paid and more and you won't have to question what they're doing.

Kathleen - this is a great list!  It always amazes me the amount of people that think there is nothing to the job of a real estate agent - i certainy beg to differ!

Thanks Mike, Kathryn & Leesa!  I agree with you Kathryn!  Buyers can be so picky and they don't realize that they aren't even paying us for all of the work we're doing for them.  It's actually the sellers who are flipping the bill...I have one that is literally flipping the bill because her sale was not  a "short sale", but the sale price did come up short the commission amount after everything else is paid.  She's paying the commission out of pocket, has NOTHING to do with the buyers.
