Social Media Strategies You Should Be Focusing on For 2011

Social media is here to stay people!  It's time to embrace it and put some focus into it for 2011.  I'm still amazed by the number of professionals that only use Facebook to keep in touch with family members or that Tweet about movies and food when they're missing a piece of the pie.  Lets discuss some of the top social media gatherings and ways to streamline your presence on them.

Facebook - By far, my favorite place to be social.  Facebook is great because there are a million ways to find people on here and socialize with them & their sphere.  Post daily and try to get interactions.

Twitter - A little more of a challenge for some, but who doesn't love a great challenge?  When you get the hang of it, Tweeting can be fun and addictive!  Tweet towards the followers you're looking to gain & tweet often.

ActiveRain - Best place for real estate professionals to blog.  So much great info to share and learn from.  I find I get even more than I share on here.  This should be the #1 or close 2nd place to get started when getting into the business.  Try to blog 3x per week and work your way up to 5.  Write lots of hyper-local content.

LinkedIn - Used a lot for recruitment, LinkedIn is a great place to network with professionals.

FourSquare - Reminds me a bit of Twitter tweaked a bit.  Check-in to local hot spots and see what other FourSquare users are close by.  Also take advantage of specials now being advertised to FourSquare users such as free appetizers and discounts.  If you don't like the idea of people knowing where you are when you're there, you can always check-in as you're leaving.  Link to your Facebook so your friends can check it out, too.

Google buzz - If you use Google Talk it will automatically update your Buzz with status updates.  Using TweetDeck you can update your Buzz, Twitter, Facebook & Myspace all at one time.  Great way to stay in front of Gmail users.  With all of the Droid phones out there, this is becoming a huge population.

YouTube - #1 Video search engine, need I say more?  YouTube has taken over cyberspace and is changing the way we do business.  If you're not on video yet, you need to get a handheld camera and get there!

If you don't know where to start, begin with 2-3 of these and work your way up to being social on them all.  Link your Facebook to your Twitter account so your updates automatically post there.  ActiveRain also lets you link your blog to Twitter.  Use platforms such as TweetDeck or HootSuite to post to your Facebook, Twitter, FourSquare and Google Buzz with one post.  Social media is not all that time constraining like people make it out to be.  Get over the excuses of why not to use them and start embracing the reasons why to use them!

Happy Socializing!

MacBook Pro Why Do You Do Me So Wrong?

MacBook Pro Why Do You Do Me So Wrong?

Over the summer I switched from PC to Mac.  It all started when I purchased my iPad.  Love it!  Then I had to get a MacBook Pro to compliment it and we also bought the Mini Mac for our desktop.  So far so good with their performance.

We took a mini trip to the Cape near the end of the summer and somehow in the shuffle my screen got cracked.  Don't remember it ever getting slammed or
dropped so I was shocked to see the crack, but it's all good because I have the warranty protection.  I took it in to Best Buy where they shipped it out and it came back a very long 3 weeks later.  As good as new!

Yesterday I decided to finally install the Keynote software that I bought for the MacBook.  I slid the disc in and it slowly ate it making some funny noises in the process.  Waited for a minute and nothing happened.  Tried to eject the disc and nothing would work.  I've read tons of forums on what to do and about many others that have had the same problem, but nothing works.  Every time I restart the computer it makes a ton of crazy noises, but never will spit out the disc.  Now my last option is to take it back in, but a friend of mine did the same thing and was without it for 3 weeks!  3 weeks feels like 3 years to me, especially when we're going to FL in 2 weeks and really need to have a laptop with us while we're away.  Looks like I'll have to bring it in after Thanksgiving, but it's really sad that something that has such high reviews and reputation could do me so wrong.
