Day 31: 100 Days of Central Mass Features Southwick's Zoo

This is going to be fun, Southwick's Zoois one of my FAVORITE places to go each year!  Located in Mendon, MA, Southwick's Zoois New England's LARGEST zoo adventure.  Looking back into history, the zoo started over 200 years ago in 1803 as a working farm with dairy cows.  It is independently owned, not local or federally funded in any way.  The zoo is home to over 500 wild animals featuring over 100 varied species.  We try to go as a family tradition each year on either Mother's Day or Father's day since the mom or dad gets in free on that day.  This year we got rained out on Father's Day, but we're planning on visiting the zoo tomorrow.  There is so much to love about this zoo.  Parking is free, you are permitted to bring your own lunches into the park or there is plenty of food you can purchase at the zoo and there is so much to see!  My favorite exhibit is the Deer Forest exhibit, as I'm sure my boys will agree.  You get to see up close and personal the Eurasian Fallow Deer in a natural like habitat.  There is food that you can purchase to feed them, they will walk right up to you and eat it out of your hand.  Last year they told us about a new ride coming to the zoo - the Skyfari Sky Ride.  I'm excited to take my 5 year old on this tomorrow!  It's like a ski lift ride that takes you over the Deer Forest, the Chimp exhibit and above the whole park.  It's about 15 minutes long and costs $5 per person.

Southwick's Zoois located at 2 Southwick Street in Mendon, Massachusetts.  Here are some pictures from past years at the zoo.  Enjoy!
