I USE FACEBOOK TO PICKUP DUDES...I MEAN PROSPECTS!

How are you using Facebook?  There are millions of people on Facebook daily.  Some are farming on imaginary farms, some are feeding their web pets and others are connecting with old high school friends.  Most importantly, some are finding the advantages of using Facebook for their business.

You can setup Fan Pages easily on Facebook to promote your business or product.  There are tons of Fan Pages out there for almost anything you can think of.  This is the best way to grow awareness on Facebook for your business.  I currently maintain 6 different Fan pages for everything from my real estate practice to my blogging group.  Fan pages allow you to keep your fans updated.  They are public pages versus your profile, which is more private.  You can have unlimited fans on your Fan Page where you are cutoff at 5,000 friends on a profile account.

Some of the benefits of Fan Pages:

  • They Are An Extension of Your Profile
  • Can Have Unlimited Fans
  • They Are Public
  • Can Be Used to Send Messages To Large Groups to Keep Them Updated
  • You Can Share Links and Data on Your Page
  • Engage With Fans
On my regular Facebook profile I add everyone local to my market area.  Once they are your friend,  you can invite them to become fans of your pages.  I strive to keep my profile page interesting, professional and quirky to my style.  People really get to know my personality from reading the posts on my wall.  I like to keep it positive.  This attracts more involvement from others than having a negative page.

When trying to attract more friends:

  • Be Positive - More People Enjoy Good Messages and Vibes
  • Be Yourself (As long as you're not offending others)
  • Try To Stay Neutral
  • Add Anyone Local to You That You Could Do Business With (You can always make separate groups to keep some things private if you wish)
  • Join Groups and Start Conversations With Them
To keep track of who drops you as a friend you can use an application on Facebook called Friend Drop.  It will tell you whether someone has deleted your or they just deleted their profile.  If you post too often, sometimes people with smaller friends lists will delete you because you keep showing up and they're not interested.  I try to post 1-3 posts per day and this includes my blogs that feed through to my wall.

Whatever you are doing on Facebook, enjoy it.  It's great technology and I love it for more reasons than I can count!

Facebook 101: Yes, I'll Be Your "Friend", But I Don't Want To Hear From You!

If you are using Facebook to social network and connect with old friends and family, you are probably starting to fill up your friend's list fast.  With each person you choose to be friends with on Facebook comes more and more status updates, posts, links and invites on your wall and page.  Like me, you've probably got your inner circle of people you'd like to follow and keep tabs on and then you've got those people that have found you that you don't know that well, but felt bad rejecting their friend requests so you've accepted them and now you don't really want to see their status updates every couple of hours about what they are having for dinner and what movie they just watched, but it's taking over your page!  Have you ever thought "there's just got to be a better way"Well there is!

When I started growing my friends list to over 500 people, I had to find a way to make it well organized so that I could always see updates from those people that I was interested in hearing from at the time.  I did a fast Google search and quickly found out that I could create lists for different sets of people.  I've setup my page into several lists.  My first list is my "Keeping In Touch" group.  This group has been moved to the top of the list because those are the status updates I want to read when I log-in.  Some other lists I have are "Friends", "Family", "Realtors" and "Contacts".  You may not want to read your fellow Realtors updates daily or every hour, so you can place that list underneath your "Keeping In Touch" list and just click on it each time you feel like browsing through the updates from your fellow Realtors.  When you click on a specific list you have created, only those that you put into that list will show up.  This is also a good feature if you want to set different portions of your page to private or hide personal photos from professional contacts.

To start creating your lists, log-in to your Facebook page, look to the left column where you see that list with your News Feed, Pages, Links, etc... and click on More.  Towards the bottom of that list you will see an option that says Create New List, click on it, type in a name for that list and then start typing out the names of your friends you'd like to add to that list or click on their photos.  Once you've selected them all, click Create List and Voila!  You've just created your first Facebook list.  To make your "Keeping In Touch" list the first list you see when you log-in, simply click your Facebook Home button, then click More on that list to the left and hover over the line with the list's name towards the right of it until you see a cursor with 4 arrows indicating which way you'd like to move that list.  Click and hold while you drag the list to the top, drop it there and click your Facebook Home one last time for it all to appear correctly.

Feel free to ask questions if you need help setting this up on your own Facebook page.  We'd also love to connect with you on our Facebook Fan Page - www.Facebook.com/JCKCRealty

Please Join the JCKC Facebook Fan Page!

Hi Everyone!  JCKC Realty has started a new Facebook Fan Page.  Please help us grow our page and join here:  http://www.facebook.com/JCKCRealy

We're making a page to share ideas, network, and share referrals.  We've got a discussion board started with a few different topics, please join the fun!  If you don't have a Facebook account, now is a great time to join.  It's FREE and easy to do, only takes a few minutes.  I've kept in touch with so many friends, family members and clients using Facebook and I use it to meet new people in my area and build awareness about our company.  See what Facebook can do for your business and social life.  You'll be surprised who will find you, it's like a high school reunion on the web!

With a Fan Page you can run Facebook ads that look similar to the the one on the right of this paragraph.  You can have it seen only by people in certain age groups, locations, etc. so if you're a Senior Real Estate Specialist, you can target seniors with one ad and if you're a specialist with first time home buyers, you can run another type of ad for them.  Once you have 100 fans your fan page will be it's own page with it's own ID rather than being linked to your regular Facebook page.  So please join our fans, we're up to 81 as of 9/27/09 at 7:50AM!
