7 YEARS AGO TODAY I WAS A VEGAS RUNAWAY!!!

7 YEARS AGO TODAY I WAS A VEGAS RUNAWAY!!!

Today is our 7 year anniversary.  James and I traveled to Las Vegas and stayed in a penthouse suite in the Mandalay Bay to get married at the Chapel by the Bay.  It was really a wave pool with real sand, but it was just as beautiful as a beach.

James and I had known each other for 43 days when we tied the knot.  Yes, that's right!  43 DAYS!!!  James is quite the joker so when he said lets go to Vegas and get married I said "sure!".  LOL  Not knowing that he was going to pull out his laptop and buy us plane tickets from North Carolina to Vegas, I decided to see how far he'd take this.  Well, he took me all the way to the alter and back.

7 years, 4 kids, a couple of moves and a business later, here we are in Brookfield, Massachusetts thriving in the real estate industry.  People actually placed bets on us after we got married giving us anywhere between 6 months and a year to get divorced.  We sure have showed them wrong!

I was 19 years old the day we got married (don't tell anyone) and my parents were freaking out!!!  They had never met James and had no idea what we were doing.  They love him now, but at the time they were threatening all kinds of things if I didn't call my mother.  When we got to Vegas in the middle of the night we drove around looking at all the bright lights and ended up at Mandalay Bay.  What a beautiful place to be!  It was so hot, I can remember the smell of the pavement and the temperature being 117 degrees the day we got married.

The first couple of days we rode all of the roller coasters and went in and out of all of the hotels we could find.  We enjoyed the lights and the life in the busy city.  We went to the mall, enjoyed all kinds of food from restaurants we didn't have at home and searched for wedding rings.

On the day of July 17th, 2003 we headed down to the Chapel by the Bay to get married.  Still unsure if we were going to go through with it, we bravely walked into the empty chapel and took our places.  Shaking from nervousness we said our vows and were married by a lady that looked like Sally Jesse Raphael.  After the ceremony we put on our swimsuits to enjoy some fun in the sun at the wave pool where James lost his first wedding ring in the sand.  He was putting on some sunscreen and it flew off and could not be found.  We headed to the store and bought him a new one that was exactly like the old ring.

And so...history was made and we are celebrating today with our family from Texas!  Hope you enjoyed our story.  I know, we're nuts!  =)

6 Years Ago Today I was a Vegas Runaway!

Mandalay Bay Las VegasToday James and I are celebrating 6 years of marriage and we'd like to share the miracle of our story with you.  We met on his birthday - June 4 in 2003 at the Candlewood Suites in Greensboro, NC.  He was the General Manager and I was applying for a summer job while I awaited the new construction of the Courtyard Marriott in High Point, NC where I had a position as the Sales Manager and Restaurant Manager waiting for me after it's scheduled Fall opening from a previous GM I worked with.  James hired me on the spot and we took a liking to each other.  He was adventurous and exciting.  He loved to explore and drive hours out to the mountains and all over the place with me.  He was sweet, very gentlemen like.  He opened my car door, offered to pay for dinners and would talk for hours on the phone with me.  He'd stay up at the hotel during my 3-11PM shift and fold laundry with me...I HATE laundry so this was a big thing!!!  After several weeks of this we had spent the entire night out eating at Denny's and talking under the moon.  When morning came, he asked me if I'd like to go to Las Vegas and get married to him...THAT DAY!  Anyone that knows James knows he's a big joker...so I wasn't sure if he was serious or just playing around.  My answer was "SURE!".  And so the story of our marriage begins...

The next thing I knew he was on his laptop booking flights out of Greensboro and on the phone calling friends to watch his dog.  I still wasn't sure we'd go through with it when we arrived, I half thought he was just playing around.  With nothing but the clothes on our backs, a pair of dress clothes to get married in and some of James' flip flops, we hopped on a plane and arrived in Las Vegas in the middle of the night the week of July 17th.  We rented a car and drove around the bright city trying to decide where we'd like to stay.  We ended up at Mandalay Bay and booked a penthouse suite in room 60220.  We had beautiful views of all of the pools and different parts of the city.  We spent the first few days roaming around in the middle of the night checking out all of the local hotels and casinos and riding the roller coasters we could find.  We booked a wedding package at Mandalay Bay for July 17th, 2003.  They provided us with a limousine to get our marriage license and drive around the city.  Meanwhile, my dad was leaving messages on my cell threatening to kill James if I didn't call my mother...LOL  Neither of my parents had met James prior and they were expectantly freaking out about what I was doing.  (They now LOVE James and see what I saw from the start!)

And so it happened, 6 years ago today we got married at the Chapel by the Bay at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.  It was wild and tons of fun and probably the best thing I've ever done with my life.  He is a wonderful man, we now have 4 beautiful children and an incredible real estate business.
